Wide Area Network

(WAN Package)

Wide Area Networking (WAN) allows computers at any location in the world to share information over the Internet. To do this, you will have multiple locations, each with their own server computer and client computers. All locations will be connected to the Internet, and using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), these locations will be able to communicate by sharing files and information. At each location, the server computer is a fully functioning computer from which you can take appointments, run payroll, look up clients, etc. You do not need a dedicated server computer or a very high end computer.

Your server computer will be the computer that runs SQL Server 2005 Express (or SQL Server, depending on the number of client computers), holds the database, and is able to make backups of your database. Because the server computer will perform the most work, it should be your best quality computer for optimal performance.

Please read the minimum and recommended hardware and operating system requirements below. For adequate performance to run the software, please follow at least the minimum hardware specifications. For optimal performance, please follow at least the recommended hardware specifications.

Note: Each location should have a WAN version of the software installed, and the version installed should be the same on every computer in the Wide Area Network.

Note: The number of client computers you have does not affect the specifications for a single client computer. Please read the client computer specifications below, and follow depending on your performance needs.

*Internet connection is optional if credit card processing is not used on your client computer, but will allow for better access to support and software updates. If credit card processing is used on the client computer, you have the option of using a high speed Internet connection or a modem. Internet connection is required on the server computer at each location.

Note: Orchid Medical Spa Software will run on a Mac computer if the Mac is running a Windows emulator, such as Boot Camp, and has a copy of Windows XP (SP2) or Windows Vista installed. Orchid Medical Spa Software cannot run directly off of a Mac operating system.
