Version 7 Upgrade Notes

Version 7 uses Microsoft's latest Windows controls, utilizing technology called .Net, and all versions of Orchid Medical Spa now use SQL Server for the database. Because of this, Orchid Medical Spa is different from Version 6, there are some things that you should be aware of before you install Orchid Medical Spa on your business's computer(s).

Take a Look Before You Upgrade

Version 7 has been extensively rewritten and optimized for Windows Vista, but also works with Windows XP. It has lots of new and exciting features, but is quite different than version 6. We recommend that you install the trial of V7 on a non-business computer and take a look at the new appointment book, other features, and try it before you upgrade your business computer(s).

Performance

Version 7 has an improved graphic interface and new database system which may cause it to run slower then version 6 and prior versions. If your computer does not meet our hardware requirements or you currently have performance concerns about your current software (version 6 or prior), we do not recommend that you upgrade to version 7.

Hardware Requirements

Check the new RAM/Processor requirements to make sure your computer(s) meet the requirements so as to not experience performance issues.

Online Booking Address Change

If you use the web site with online booking feature, the online booking web site address will be changed to www.ouronlineappointment.com/ACCOUNT. Although www.myonlineappointment.com/ACCOUNT will redirect customers to the new site, you may want to update your marketing material, etc. If you use the web site with online booking feature, the web site settings (look and wording) will need to be re-setup before it can be used by clients.

Receipt Printer Support

Orchid Medical Spa Software no longer supports parallel printers.

Update Time

The upgrade process is quite extensive and may take some time to complete (upwards of an hour, especially for a network or slow computers). The update should be done on a day the business is closed. You may also need to perform a Windows update. Because of this, we highly recommend that you have high speed Internet access on each computer you are upgrading.

Backup Your Database

Please make a backup of your database prior to upgrading to version 7. If you decide to revert back to version 6, we recommend that you restore from this backup. Changes made during the use of version 7 will be lost.
